How to make your roses last longer

Begin by giving the roses a diagonal cut. Use a knife or another cutting tool. If you use scissors, squeezing the stems together can reduce the rose's ability to absorb water. The cut should be approximately 2 cm long; the longer the cut, the better the rose absorbs water. Place the roses in the vase immediately after cutting the stems so that they do not suck in air; this is what causes the roses to wilt.

Avoid drooping roses

Don't remove the packaging right away; give your bouquet a moment to acclimate to room temperature to prevent drooping roses. Roses can be very sensitive. If they have been without water for an extended period, they may have had time to take up air bubbles in the stems. By giving your roses slightly longer diagonal cuts and placing them in warm water while they still have the paper around them, you prevent drooping roses. If they still hang their heads, you can wrap them in a paper cone to support them for a few hours or overnight. Once they have regained their resilience, replace the water with cold water to prevent unwanted bacteria from entering the vase.

Roses prefer a clean vase and cold water

Use a clean vase, free from bacteria residue from an old bouquet; wash it thoroughly. New findings suggest that all flowers should have cold water because it inhibits bacterial growth. Remember to remove any leaves that are below the waterline as they can contaminate the water. If you provide nutrients for your bouquet, pour it into the water, as it extends the longevity. Remember to check and adjust the water level in the vase every day; roses are thirsty flowers! Overnight, you can place your roses in a cool place, and they will last longer.
