Amaryllis + thistles = truly lovely

How to give amaryllis a long and good life
Make sure to always use a sparkling clean vase. Remember to add flower food. (Alternatively, you can use 1 tsp sugar, 2 tsp lemon juice, and 1 tsp chlorine in lukewarm water. Why? Sugar provides nutrients, chlorine prevents bacterial growth, and lemon juice regulates the pH value in the water.)
The water should now reach halfway up the stem.
Enhance the flower by inserting a floral stick into the hollow stem.
Change the water twice a week. Another clever tip, take the time to wash the vase. This removes bacteria that can clog the stems and hinder nutrient absorption.
Over time, the stems will start to split and curl. If you trim the amaryllis each time you change the water, you'll also extend the lifespan of the flowers.
When the flowers start to wither, you can pinch them off so you can enjoy the other blossoms.
A good tip is to place the flowers in a cool place overnight. Just make sure the temperature doesn't drop below freezing.
Amaryllis shedding
