It's a day when you can pay tribute to your mom, bonus mom or a woman close to you with gifts like flowers, DIY or a handwritten card that shows appreciation. Where did Mother's Day come from?

Mother's Day first arose in the United States in 1908, when teacher Anna Jarvis wanted to honor her mother and her work with a special day. Since 1919, Mother's Day has been celebrated in Sweden, and it was thanks to the writer Cecilia Bååth-Holmberg. It was she who introduced Mother's Day on the last Sunday in May, when, according to her, there were lots of flowers and greenery in the country. It's always a good idea to give mom flowers on Mother's Day. We are happy to help you find the perfect bouquet for your mother.

Why do we celebrate Mother's Day?

Twice a year there are days when we can pay a little extra tribute to our parents – Mother's Day and Father's Day. But which came first, Mother's Day or Father's Day? The tradition of celebrating Mother's Day originated earlier than Father's Day. Mother's Day is a day when you can show extra appreciation and gratitude to a female person in your life by sending flowers, handwritten cards or showing care. In the past, Mother's Day was the day of the year when a mother could take time off from her domestic duties, but today Mother's Day is celebrated in a slightly different way.

When is Mother's Day in other countries?

Mother's Day is celebrated all over the world and falls on different days. In Sweden and among others France, Haiti and Tunisia, Mother's Day is celebrated on the last Sunday in May. In Denmark, Finland and the USA it is Mother's Day on the second Sunday in May, but in Norway Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in February.
